HC Deb 02 March 1939 vol 344 c1439
76. Mr. Pearson

asked the Minister of Labour what is the present staff establishment at Pontypridd Employment Exchange; how many are permanent and temporary, respectively; and what are the respective totals per week of men and women signing the unemployment register for the past quarter?

Mr. E. Brown

The staff in post at Pontypridd Employment Exchange on 27th February, 1939, consisted of 39 permanent and 14 temporary officers. During the period referred to in the last part of the question the average weekly numbers signing the register were 4,427 men, 320 women and 540 juveniles.

Mr. Pearson

In view of the considerable hard core of unemployment in this district, does not the Minister consider that the trading estate by itself will not be an adequate cure for unemployment in that district?
