HC Deb 02 March 1939 vol 344 c1428
31. Mr. Burke

asked the Minister of Labour how many cotton operatives were registered at Burnley Employment Exchanges as unemployed on the last convenient date in February, 1939; and how many of these had been unemployed for six months and 12 months, respectively?

Mr. E. Brown

At 16th January, 1939, the latest date for which figures are available, 5,711 insured persons, aged 14–64, in the cotton industry were recorded as unemployed at the Burnley Employment Exchange. I regret that an analysis of this total according to duration of unemployment is not available for a later date than 8th June, 1936.

Mr. Silverman

Do these figures take into account under-employment?
