HC Deb 28 June 1939 vol 349 cc405-6
40. Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has considered the report of the Leonora Inquiry Commission in respect of the disturbances and loss of life in British Guiana; and whether active steps are being taken to secure better relations between the organised workers and the employers as suggested in paragraph 129?

Mr. M. MacDonald

While I am in full agreement with the views expressed in paragraph 129 of the report of the Leonora Inquiry Commission as to the desirability of securing a peaceful settlement of labour disputes in British Guiana by negotiation, I must await the Acting Governor's observations on the report before considering how this object can best be achieved.
