HC Deb 26 June 1939 vol 349 cc16-7
34. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will consider giving the necessary financial assistance and credits to an approved distributing society, which would be created for the specific purpose of purchasing wheat and processing this wheat to obtain the necessary offals for distribution to the poultry keepers and farmers throughout the country, in view of the present excessive price demanded for feeding-stuffs in relation to the price of wheat from which they are derived?

Sir R. Dorman-Smith

No, Sir.

Mr. De la Bère

Does my right hon. Friend realise that this has already been done in the case of wheat which has been stored by the Government in connection with the milling combines; and why should not the small man have exactly the same treatment as the large monopoly? Can my right hon. Friend give any possible reason for such discrimination?

Sir R. Dorman-Smith

There is a difference between an emergency measure and a measure such as the hon. Member has suggested.

Mr. De la Bère

Does my right hon. Friend realise that I have never accepted "No" for an answer?
