§ Mr. Arthur GreenwoodMay I ask the Prime Minister what will be the course of business in the event of the Eleven o'Clock Rule being suspended?
§ The Prime MinisterWe propose to move the Motion to suspend the Eleven o'Clock Rule as a precautionary measure in order to make certain of obtaining the Committee stage of the Ways and Means Resolution for the Armaments Profits Duty. In the event of that Resolution not occupying the whole of to-day's sitting, it is proposed to continue the Committee stage of the Finance Bill.
§ Mr. GreenwoodIn that case I take it that it would mean that we sit long enough to complete any Amendment before the House?
§ The Prime Minister indicated assent.
§ Mr. SilvermanIs not the Committee stage of the new Ways and Means Duty exempted business?
§ Mr. SpeakerThe hon. Member is under a misapprehension.
§ Sir H. WilliamsA good many Members were under the impression that the Committee stage of the Finance Bill would not be resumed until Wednesday, and I understand that for that reason certain Amendments have not yet been tabled which may be tabled in time for Wednesday.
§ The Prime MinisterWe must try to get along with our business.
§ Motion made, and Question put,
§ "That the Proceedings on Government Business be exempted, at this day's Sitting, from the provisions of the Standing Order
38§ (Sittings of the House)."—[The Prime Minister.]
