HC Deb 24 July 1939 vol 350 cc1022-3
71. Sir Percy Hurd

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether, following upon his undertaking as to the appropriation of agricultural land for defence purposes, conferences have been held between the War, Air and Agricultural Departments, and with what result?

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (Mr. W. S. Morrison)

Arrangements exist whereby the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is consulted by the Service Departments in regard to the proposed appropriation of land for service purposes. The selection of suitable sites depends upon the fulfilment of technical and strategical requirements, and the final responsibility for the acquisition of land must, therefore, rest with the Defence Departments. The whole question is being kept under constant review by my colleagues in charge of the Departments concerned.

Sir P. Hurd

Has there been a conference such as was indicated by the Prime Minister when he gave the undertaking?

Mr. Morrison

Yes, Sir, there have been several consultations between the Departments concerned.
