HC Deb 21 February 1939 vol 344 cc174-5
15. Mr. De la Bère

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will have an inquiry made into the system of grain trading adopted in recent years by the milling combines?

Mr. Stanley

No, Sir. I am not aware of reasons which would justify such an inquiry.

Mr. De la Bère

Will my right hon. Friend tell me why, if the milling combines have nothing to conceal, we cannot have an inquiry?

Mr. Stanley

There is nothing to inquire into.

Mr. De la Bère

In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the reply, I beg to give notice that I shall raise the matter on the Adjournment.

Mr. Shinwell

May I ask——

Mr. Speaker

The hon. Member for Evesham (Mr. De la Bère) has already given notice to raise the question on the Adjournment.

Mr. Davidson

On a point of Order. Mr. Speaker, I desire to ask for your Ruling as to whether it is in order for an hon. Member to state that he will raise the question on the Adjournment when another hon. Member is on his feet and speaking?

Mr. Speaker

The hon. Gentleman was not quick enough.
