HC Deb 21 February 1939 vol 344 c175
16. Mr. Day

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will give particulars of the number of commercial agreements entered into between the United Kingdom Government and Governments of other countries that have been terminated by either the United Kingdom or other Governments during the three years ended the last convenient date?

Mr. Stanley

During the three years ended 20th February, 1939, the Ottawa Agreement with Canada and Trade or Payments Agreements with four foreign countries, Argentina, Turkey, Italy and Rumania, have been terminated. These agreements have all been replaced by new agreements.

Mr. Day

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether when these agreements are terminated the British Commonwealth of Nations are consulted or are informed?

Mr. Stanley

I should like to have notice of that question.
