HC Deb 21 February 1939 vol 344 c196
45. Mr. Mander

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that the figures compiled by the experts of the United States War Department show that the average monthly output in the latter part of last year of military aeroplanes was Germany 500 and Great Britain 250; and whether he is satisfied that the disparity between Great Britain and Germany is now being made up to the advantage of Great Britain?

The Prime Minister (Mr. Chamberlain)

I have seen certain reports in the Press, but I am unable to accept them as giving a correct indication of the present position. As the hon. Member is aware, the Government have always deprecated in the public interest the drawing of such comparisons. I think that the House is aware that the monthly output of aircraft in this country has more than doubled in the course of the last year, and that it is continuing to show a marked upward trend.
