HC Deb 20 February 1939 vol 344 cc34-5
70. Mr. R. J. Taylor

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that it is dangerous for vehicles with twin tyres on the rear to be weighed on a machine that is only capable of taking one wheel at a time; and what steps he proposes to take to overcome the difficulty which owners of vehicles are experiencing in regard to weighing of vehicles as laid down under the Act?

Captain Hudson

My attention has been drawn to the complaint to which the hon. Member refers but I am not aware of any element of danger. I am advised that the load on a tyre when so weighed is not as severe as may be imposed under running conditions.

Mr. Taylor

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that until the proper type of machine is installed it is impossible to weigh these machines without breaking the law in regard to safety?

Captain Hudson

That is not my information.
