asked the Minister of Health how many preservation orders under Section 17 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1932, have been made t date; in respect of what buildings; and what, if any, compensation under Section 18 has been paid?

Twelve orders have been made, and there has been one award of compensation for £1,500, but in that case the property affected is being bought by the council. Detailed information is given in a list that I am circulating in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the list:

25th August, 1936. Bridgwater T.C. Bridgwater Borough The Old Water Gate No claim made.
19th May, 1937 Leominster T.C. Leominster Borough Grange Court. Claim made. Arbitrator awarded £1,500 compensation. Council are going to buy property. A loan has been sanctioned for this purpose.
28th May, 1937 New Romney T.C. New Romney Borough Shop and dwellinghouse opposite New Inn Hotel, in High Street; four almshouses and two old cottages in West Street; assembly rooms and schoolroom adjoining in Church Street; Town Hall and caretaker's house adjoining in High Street. No claim made.
30th October, 1937. Sherborne U.D.C. Sherborne Urban District St. Thomas à Becket Chapel; almshouse of St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist; the Abbott's Lodgings; the archway to the Abbey. No claim made.
8th February, 1938. Walthamstow T.C. Walthamstow Borough Salisbury Hall, Chingford Road No claim made. Council are going to buy property.
4th March, 1938 Essex County Council Hornchurch Urban District Smock Mill, St. Mary's Lane, Upminster No claim made. County Council have purchased the property.
7th September. I938. Cheltenham T.C. Cheltenham Borough Montpellier Rotunda and 10, Montpellier Street. *No claim made.
8th September, 1938. Essex County Council Tendring Rural District Post Type Mill, north of Whitehouse Farm, in Parish of Ramsey. *No claim made. An agreement has been entered into with the owners whereby the County Council are to contribute towards the cost of repairs.
14th September, 1938. Winchester City Council. Winchester City Ye Olde Hostel of God Begot, 101, High Street. No claim made. Council are going to purchase the property.
14th December, 1938. Alderley Edge U.D.C. Alderley Edge Urban District Chorley Old Hall *No claim made.
15th December,1938. Slough U.D.C. Slough Urban District Baylis House, Stoke Poges Lane *No claim made. Council are likely to purchase the property.
9th February,1939. Slough U.D.C. Slough Urban District Observatory House, Windsor Road *No claim made at present. The Order was approved on the 9th February, 1939.
*The time for claiming compensation has not yet expired.
