§ 29. Mr. Roland Robinsonasked the Minister of Labour whether he will make a survey of the existing holiday accommodation so as to determine its adequacy, bearing in mind the movement for spread-over holidays, before embarking on new competitive schemes?
§ Mr. E. BrownI understand that a Committee on Workers' Holidays, established by the Industrial Welfare Society and presided over by Lord Amulree, has set up a number of sub-committees, of which one will deal with existing accommodation facilities, and another with the question of planning and sites for future accommodation, and the spread-over of holidays. In view of this I do not think that a special inquiry by my Department is necessary. I am not aware of any proposal on my part to embark on competitive schemes.
§ Mr. RobinsonIs the Minister aware that there is a widespread fear that the proposed evacuation camps may compete in peace-time with the business of the little men in the holiday resorts?
§ Mr. BrownMy hon. Friend will understand that the camps we have in mind are evacuation camps, and are not primarily intended for holidays.
§ Mr. T. SmithDoes the right hon. Gentleman think that agricultural workers will be able to find at the seaside accommodation suitable to their means?
