HC Deb 07 December 1939 vol 355 cc781-2
2. Mr. Ede

asked the Minister of Labour, what consents have to be obtained before a local authority, in whose area juvenile unemployment persists, can re-open a juvenile instruction centre closed on the outbreak of war?

Mr. E. Brown

My approval is required. If an educaťion authority consider that re-opening of a centre is justified they should communicate in the first instance with the divisional controller for the area concerned.

Mr. Ede

Can the right hon. Genťleman give my indication how many of these centres have been reopened recently?

Mr. Brown

About a week ago I think the number was 30.
