§ 7. Mr. T. Smithasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that certain voluntary organisations, academic institutions, and firms, have dismissed, or are contemplating dismissing, British subjects from employment, while retaining refugee and other aliens who have no better or 786 inferior qualifications; and whether he will take immediate steps, in order that British subjects may be given a strong preference in all such cases, to ensure that every case in which it is proposed to retain an alien while dismissing British subjects shall be submtted to him for investigation and decision?
§ Mr. E. BrownI am not aware of such cases, but I shall be glad to consider any information which the hon. Member may care to bring to my notice. If the facts such as those alleged were proved in any particular case, the question of withdrawing permission for the employment of the alien would arise.
