HC Deb 05 December 1939 vol 355 c428
22. Mr. Hely-Hutchinson

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that fresh liquid milk is cheaper and more nourishing than condensed milk; and whether, since the farmer receives about 6d. per gallon less for milk sold for manufacturing into condensed milk than for milk sold as liquid, and necessary war and imported materials are used in packing condensed milk, he will take steps to arrange that fresh liquid milk shall be supplied to the troops wherever circumstances permit?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

The value of fresh milk is fully realised and messing officers have been constantly advised to buy it whenever possible. A further circular was issued on this point last month.
