HC Deb 03 August 1939 vol 350 cc2588-9
8. Mr. James Griffiths

asked the Minister of Labour whether he has given consideration to the representations made to him by the Carmarthenshire County Council in reference to the depressed industrial conditions in certain areas in the county; and what steps he proposes to take to assist those areas?

Mr. E. Brown

Yes, Sir. I am writing to the hon. Member about the specific suggestions made by the deputation which was received on my behalf. As regards the general question of attracting new industrial undertakings to the county I would refer the hon. Member to the Loans Facilities Bill which has just been introduced.

Mr. Griffiths

Will the right hon. Gentleman in the Recess be prepared to receive a deputation from this authority and other authorities to discuss this matter? Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the provisions have proved to be totally inadequate for these areas?

Mr. Brown

I should be sorry to think that; but I am always prepared to receive a deputation on important issues.

Mr. Griffiths

I gather that the right hon. Gentleman is prepared to receive a deputation?

Mr. Brown

Perhaps the hon. Member will discuss the matter to me.
