HC Deb 04 April 1939 vol 345 cc2620-1
55. Mr. McEntee

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the nature of the various purposes for which land on Mahé, in the Seychelles Islands, is required by the governor of the Seychelles in exchange for the lease of the State-owned Felicité Island; and whether, as settlement schemes are among them, he will state whom it is proposed to settle and on what conditions?

The Vice-Chamberlain of the Household (Mr. Grimston)

I have been asked to reply. The Government of Seychelles have in mind using any land which they may acquire on Mahé, for the settlement of local agricultural labourers and for model housing schemes designed to improve the conditions in which the peasant lives. The Government also have under consideration the establishment of certain experimental agricultural stations.
