HC Deb 04 April 1939 vol 345 cc2608-9
35. Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware that the Scottish Milk Marketing Board is now paying out, on behalf of the Exchequer, about £15,000 per month in respect of quality milk premiums; that the amount owing to the Board on this account is reaching the sum of £100,000; that the Board is concerned about this depletion of its funds; that the delay in dealing with this matter is causing anxiety among producers; and whether he will make a statement on the subject?

The Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. Colville)

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given on 23rd March on behalf of my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries to a question by the hon. Member for Devizes (Sir P. Hurd) regarding the payment of quality milk premiums by the Milk Marketing Board in England and Wales. The position in Scotland is the same.
