HC Deb 04 April 1939 vol 345 c2595
15. Mr. Day

asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of meetings that have been held by the Films Council since their appointment under the Cinematograph Films Act, 1938, and the number of occasions on which they have discussed the problem of the variation of the quota under this Act; and whether they have arrived at any decision or made any recommendation?

Mr. Stanley

The Cinematograph Films Council inform me that they have so far held 15 meetings, but I am not aware at how many of these the question of the quotas was discussed. The Council have now informed me that they do not recommend for the year beginning 1st October next any alteration in the level of the quotas for exhibitors from those prescribed in the Act. The Council also inform me that they will communicate with me again at a later date regarding the renters and exhibitors quotas for later periods.

Mr. Day

Are we to understand that the quota conditions are to be considered for the year after October next?

Mr. Stanley

Yes, Sir; that is so.
