HC Deb 03 April 1939 vol 345 c2439
38. Mr. Leach

asked the Postmaster- General whether volunteers in his Department are still undergoing tests for tuberculosis; how many have been tested to date; and what are the reults of these experiments?

Major Tryon

Volunteers are still undergoing tests and up to date 560 have been tested. The results are not communicated to the Department.

Mr. Leach

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether any results have been obtained so far?

Major Tryon

I cannot give the results because the results of the inquiries are not communicated to me but to the College of Physicians, who are undertaking the inquiry.

Mr. Leach

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether any claims for compensation are likely to arise?

Major Tryon

I am glad the hon. Member has raised that question, because of of the 560 Post Office volunteers none are known to have suffered any injury whatever.
