HC Deb 03 April 1939 vol 345 c2453
70. Mr. Thorne

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he can give any information in connection with the accident at Messrs. Edgar Allen and Company, Imperial Steel Works, Tinsley, Sheffield, on Tuesday last, when several workmen were injured; and what was the cause of the accident?

The Secretary of State for the Home Department (Sir Samuel Hoare)

I understand that this terrible accident was due to the fracture of a metal lever in a large weighing machine from which a load of molten steel was suspended. The load fell, and the molten metal poured across the shop. The cause of the fracture and other circumstances are being further investigated.
