HC Deb 06 October 1938 vol 339 cc459-60
4. Mr. Day

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the number of local prisons that have been closed in England and Wales during the 10 years ended to the last convenient date; and the figures showing the net saving in the cost of staff and other economies that have resulted from the same?

The Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)

Since 1st April, 1928, three local prisons have been closed. I regret that the information asked for in the second part of the question is not available.

Mr. Day

Have arrangements been made for the displaced staff?

Mr. Lloyd

I must have notice of that question.
