HC Deb 28 November 1938 vol 342 cc32-3
60. Mr. Lyons

asked the Postmaster-General the approximate amount of new employment that it is anticipated will he required to deal with the Christmas traffic in the city of Leicester; and when and where should applications be made in that connection?

Major Tryon

About 1,000 additional men will be required at Leicester. Applicants should register at once at the local Employment Exchange.

Mr. Lyons

Will the Postmaster-General bring to the notice of the people concerned the statement he has just made?

Major Tryon

The facts are well known and the arrangements are made by the local postmaster.

Mr. Lyons

But does the Department publish these facts?

Major Tryon

The statement made in answer to the question will be published.

61. Mr. Liddall

asked the Postmaster-General what additional employment is likely to be provided for the extended traffic for Christmas in the city of Lincoln and when and where applications should be made in that respect?

Major Tryon

About 200 additional men will be required at Lincoln. Applicants should register at once at the local employment exchange.

Mr. Logan

Am I to take it that the Postmaster-General intends to withdraw his reservation in regard to those over 45 years of age?

Major Tryon

Perhaps the hon. Member will put that question on the Order Paper.
