HC Deb 14 November 1938 vol 341 cc486-7
40. Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Minister of Agriculture what was the total value of foodstuffs grown at home per head of population in 1914 and in 1937, respectively?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I regret that complete information is not available on which to compute the total value of homegrown foodstuffs in 1914, but the value of the agricultural output of Great Britain per head of the population in 1908—the last pre-war year in which a census of production was taken—is estimated at £3.7 and in 1936–37 at £5.7.

Mr. T. Williams

Can the Minister tell us how the two things would come out if the 1937 prices were translated into the 1908 prices?

Mr. Morrison

I should like notice of that question.

Mr. W. Roberts

Can the right hon. Gentleman give us the total value of the output this year as compared with 1937?

Mr. Morrison

I could if I had notice of the question.
