HC Deb 03 November 1938 vol 340 cc348-9
5. Mr. E. J. Williams

asked the Minister of Labour the number of persons engaged at the Bridgend arsenal and the number drawn from the Employment Exchanges of Bridgend, Aberkenfig, Maesteg, Pontycymmer, and Ogmore Vale?

Mr. E. Brown

The number of persons engaged at the Royal Ordnance Factory at Bridgend at 27th October, was 3,238. The number of persons included in that figure who were engaged through the Employment Exchanges mentioned was:

Bridgend 647
Aberkenfig 288
Maesteg 371
Pontycymmer 231
Ogmore Vale 191
In addition there were engagements through Exchanges in a somewhat wider area.

Mr. Williams

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether these figures indicate that all the labour that is now being employed at the Royal Arsenal is recruited from these Employment Exchanges?

Mr. Brown

I understand that, on the whole, that is so. The hon. Member will understand that he has chosen five Employment Exchanges, and there are a number of other contiguous Exchanges.
