HC Deb 02 November 1938 vol 340 c194

The following question stood upon the Order Paper in the name of Mr. MALCOLM MACMILLAN:

25. To ask the Minister of Transport whether he has any statement to make on the application of the Inverness-shire County Council for assistance for the completion of the Strond Road, Isle of Harris; and what is the estimated cost of completion and the cost separately of the part completed up to date?

Mr. MacMillan

May I explain that this question should read:

Whether the Minister has received any application for a financial grant from Inverness County Council for the completion of the Strond Road, Isle of Harris, and has he any statement to make?

Mr. Burgin

Perhaps I may read the answer first to the question as it appears on the Paper. I have received no application from the Inverness-shire County Council for a grant towards the cost of further reconstruction works on the Strond Road. The cost of the works recently completed was approximately £2,000 and it is estimated that the cost of the reconstruction of the remaining section would be about £4,000.
