HC Deb 02 November 1938 vol 340 c199
27. Mr. E. J. Williams

asked the first Commissioner of Works whether the stoppage of work at Bridgend arsenal due to a dispute has now terminated; what was the cause of the dispute; and whether there is a prospect of a satisfactory settlement?

The First Commissioner of Works (Sir Philip Sassoon)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The cause of the dispute was a demand by bricklayers and carpenters for an increase of 1½d. per hour in their rate of pay. Negotiations with a view to a settlement are still proceeding.
