HC Deb 31 May 1938 vol 336 c1811
26. Major Macnamara

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the uncertainty as to the policy concerning Army uniforms, he will authorise the issue of one simple uniform serviceable in war and comfortable and smart in peacetime?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

The experimental "battle-dress" is being tried on a large scale this year.

Major Macnamara

In view of the various photographs that have been published and the suggestions that have been made, would my right hon. Friend assure the House that, whatever uniform is finally decided upon, it will be smart as well as serviceable?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

I can assure my hon. and gallant Friend that smartness is largely a question of opinion.
