54. Mr. N. Maclean

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he can make any statement regarding the industrial undertakings which have been started in the Special Areas in Scotland?

Mr. Colville

I am informed by the Special Areas Commissioner that since May, 1937, when the Special Areas (Amendment) Act, 1937, came into operation leases have been signed by the tenants of 6o new industrial undertakings on the Scottish Industrial Estate at North Hilington, and of these undertakings 17 are actually in production. In other parts of the Special Areas, II undertakings have been offered assistance by the Commissioner under Section 3 of that Act, and of these seven are in production.

Mr. Dalton

How much additional employment has been afforded?

Mr. Colville

I cannot give that information.
