HC Deb 23 May 1938 vol 336 cc845-6
57. Sir Reģinald Clarry

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that there is a substantial increase in the imports from Belgium during the first quarter of this year, accompanied by a fall in the exports of British goods to Belgium; and whether he proposes to take any steps in the matter?

Mr. R. S. Hudson (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The position of the trade referred to is constantly under review, but I do not regard the increased adverse balance of visible trade in one quarter of the year as a sufficient reason in itself for any special action.
