HC Deb 12 May 1938 vol 335 cc1688-9
21. Mr. R. J. Taylor

asked the Minister of Labour the number of men who have gone to training centres from Northumberland during the years 1935, 1936, and 1937, respectively; and, further, how many have been found work in these years?

Mr. E. Brown

I regret that figures are not compiled and kept by the Department in such form as to enable me to answer the hon. Member's question as put. Certain figures are available, however, relating to the year 1937, which show that for the Northern Division (consisting of Northumberland, Durham, Westmorland and part of Yorkshire) 2,601 men were accepted by interviewing panels for training at Government training centres. In the same year about 97 per cent. of the men from the country as a whole who completed a course of training passed into employment.
