HC Deb 12 May 1938 vol 335 c1713
66. Mr. Day

asked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the inconveniences suffered by tenants occupying small houses and flats through the insanitary conditions and bad state of repair into which the landlords and owners have allowed them to get in spite of the fact that they are charging an extra sum of 40 per cent. on pre-war rental to cover repairs, he will consider introducing legislation to amend the present Housing Acts so as to remedy such conditions?

Sir K. Wood

Local authorities have wide powers in this matter, and I will send the appropriate references to the hon. Member.

Mr. Day

Is this a matter for consideration when legislation is contemplated; and can the right hon. Gentleman say when that will take place?
