HC Deb 04 May 1938 vol 335 c871
52. Mr. J. Griffiths

asked the Minister for the Co-ordination of Defence whether, in the steps that are being taken to store food for a national emergency, full consideration has been given to the advantages of canned foods for storage purposes; whether the possibilities of a rapid expansion of the food-canning industry have been explored; and whether he can indicate what steps are being taken in the matter?

Sir T. Inskip

The answer to the first two parts of the hon. Member's question is in the affirmative. I lately received a deputation from the Food Manufacturers' Federation when the question of food canning in relation to the Government's storage programme was fully discussed. As to the last part of the question, I am not in a position to make any statement.
