HC Deb 24 March 1938 vol 333 c1348
26. Mr. Bull

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has considered, with the local authorities, the recent complaints that high prices are charged by cinemas when lower priced seats are vacant; in particular, whether he will consider, with the appropriate authorities, the need for requiring illuminated plans to be posted either outside or inside the vestible of a cinema showing the prices of the different seats and where they begin and end for each price charged; and, if necessary, will he introduce legislation for this purpose?

The Secretary of State for the Home Department (Sir Samuel Hoare)

I can assure my hon. Friend that the local licensing authorities have full powers to deal with complaints of this kind, and there is no need for legislation. I understand that such complaints as have been made relate mainly to the metropolitan area and that the London County Council are giving careful consideration to the matter. I will bring my hon. Friend's suggestion to their notice.
