HC Deb 24 March 1938 vol 333 c1370
50. Mr. David Adams

asked the Minister of Health the total number of persons in the United Kingdom in receipt of old age pensions at the last convenient date who require to augment their incomes by Poor Law relief, together with the total amount so received?

Sir K. Wood

On 1st January, 1938, the latest date for which figures are available, the number was 230,652 for England and Wales. As regards the last part of the question, the returns received in the Ministry of Health do not distinguish separately this category of persons. As regards Scotland and Northern Ireland, I would refer the hon. Member to the Secretaries of State for Scotland and for the Home Department.
