HC Deb 23 March 1938 vol 333 cc1187-8
23. Mr. Mander

asked the Prime Minister whether Sir Robert Vansittart remains chief diplomatic officer of the Foreign Office; and whether he is regularly consulted on matters of foreign policy?

Mr. Butler

The position of Sir Robert Vansittart is that of Chief Diplomatic Adviser. The answer to the last part of the question is in the affirmative.

Mr. Mander

May I assume that there is no foundation for the statement that Sir Robert Vansittart is not being consulted at present by the Prime Minister at all?

Mr. Butler

I am not aware of any such statement. Sir Robert Vansittart's advice is very valuable to the Government.
