asked the Secretary for Mines the number of coal-cutting machines and the number of coal conveyors in use in Lancashire and Cheshire in 1930, and at the latest date on which figures are available?

During the year 1930, 765 coal-cutting machines and 228 conveyors were in use at mines, under the Coal Mines Act, in Lancashire and Cheshire. The corresponding figures for 1937 were 820 and 716 respectively.
