HC Deb 21 March 1938 vol 333 c842
48. Mr. A. Henderson

asked the Prime Minister whether he will make a statement on the Government's attitude towards the proposal of M. Litvinoff, the Russian Foreign Minister, that a conference of the major Powers be held to discuss the German annexation of Austria?

The Prime Minister

His Majesty's Government have received the proposal of the Soviet Government and are giving consideration to it. I am not, however, prepared to anticipate the general statement that I hope to make at an early date on behalf of His Majesty's Government in regard to the several issues arising from the present situation.

Mr. Thurtle

Can the Prime Minister give an assurance that he will not let ideological differences stand in the way of the national interest?
