HC Deb 17 March 1938 vol 333 c588
57. Mr. Tinker

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether he has considered the resolution from the National Union of School Teachers asking him to consider the salaries paid to uncertificated and supplementary teachers of 20 years' service; and what he intends to do in answer?

Mr. Lindsay

My Noble Friend has received a copy of the resolution to which the hon. Member refers. The scales of salary for uncertificated teachers are a matter for the consideration, in the first instance, of the appropriate Burnham Committee. As regards supplementary teachers, the matter is one for the consideration of the local education authorities employing these teachers.

Mr. Tinker

Would the hon. Gentleman be willing to receive a deputation who could put up a very good case, and might it not be of advantage if he could give them some advice?

Mr. Lindsay

The matter was reviewed in 1936, but I would certainly listen to any representations from the hon. Gentleman.

Mr. Hannah

Is not this matter of considerable importance from the educational point of view?
