HC Deb 17 March 1938 vol 333 c576
32. Mr. Thorne

asked the Home Secretary whether he can give any information in connection with an accident at the Battersea power station on Wednesday last; what was the cause of the accident; and how many men were killed and injured?

Sir S. Hoare

I have received a preliminary report from which it appears that this accident was due to a concrete mixer, which was being moved, striking an electric cable and damaging it. Seven men received electric shocks, of whom, I regret to say, one was killed. Further investigations are being made.

Mr. H. G. Williams

Was the cable a bare one, or was it an insulated one which was damaged?

Sir S. Hoare

I should prefer not to make any statement until this further investigation is completed.
