§ 32. Mr. Thorneasked the Home Secretary whether he can give any information in connection with an accident at the Battersea power station on Wednesday last; what was the cause of the accident; and how many men were killed and injured?
§ Sir S. HoareI have received a preliminary report from which it appears that this accident was due to a concrete mixer, which was being moved, striking an electric cable and damaging it. Seven men received electric shocks, of whom, I regret to say, one was killed. Further investigations are being made.
§ Mr. H. G. WilliamsWas the cable a bare one, or was it an insulated one which was damaged?
§ Sir S. HoareI should prefer not to make any statement until this further investigation is completed.
