HC Deb 14 March 1938 vol 333 c26
55. Mr. McEntee

asked the Home Secretary how many cities or towns have taken a vote on the opening of cinemas on Sundays; and how many have voted in favour of Sunday opening and how many have voted against?

Sir S. Hoare

The number of cases in which a poll under the Sunday Entertainments Act has resulted in favour of the opening of cinemas on Sunday is 62. I have no information as to the number of polls in which there was a majority opposed to Sunday opening.
