HC Deb 02 March 1938 vol 332 c1112
84. Miss Rathbone

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that on the Embankment, including Millbank and Grosvenor Road, the speed limit is habitually disregarded; and whether, in view of the difficulty experienced by pedestrians in crossing the road, he will take steps to have it more strictly enforced?

The Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)

The police are already taking active steps to check exceeding of the speed limit on the Embankment; and during 1937 over 1,000 persons were reported with a view to prosecution for exceeding the speed limit along this particular stretch of road.

Mr. Day

Is it not preferable that the police should be stationed in the road so that motorists could see them?
