HC Deb 21 June 1938 vol 337 cc865-6
8. Mr. Mander

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs what communication has been made by the Canadian to the British Government with regard to the position taken up by Canada that she is bound by no commitments to remain neutral or engage in war, as stated by Mr. Mackenzie King at Ottawa on 24th May?

The Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs (Lord Stanley)

Mr. Mackenzie King's statement on 24th May related to Canadian foreign policy generally, and was made in the House of Commons of Canada. The statement did not call for any communication to His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom, nor, in fact, was any such communication made.

Mr. Mander

In view of the importance of understanding the foreign policy of the Dominions, will the Minister make arrangements to have a copy of the speech placed in the Library?

Lord Stanley

Yes, Sir.
