HC Deb 15 June 1938 vol 337 c194
7. Mr. Vyvyan Adams

asked the Prime Minister whether he will make it clear that His Majesty's Government do not entertain frontier revision as a possible contribution to a solution of the problem of minorities in Czechoslovakia?

The Prime Minister (Mr. Chamberlain)

His Majesty's Government are not prepared to lay down conditions which would in their opinion be appropriate for the solution of the problem of minorities in Czechoslovakia. This is a matter which is now being discussed between the Czechoslovak Government and the representatives of the Sudetan German party, and His Majesty's Government sincerely hope that these discussions will result in an agreed settlement.

Mr. Adams

Would not any such a revision effectively destroy the strategic integrity of Czechoslovakia?

Mr. Hannah

Why should its frontiers be specially sacred?

Mr. Mander

Is it not the case that frontier revision of that kind would also raise similar problems with regard to Denmark, Poland, Switzerland, Brazil and other countries?

Mr. Adams

Is it not important in our own interests to preserve intact this bastion of democracy?
