HC Deb 14 June 1938 vol 337 c28
61. Mr. R. Acland

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he can make a statement showing what is the present position of the experimental slaughterhouse schemes initiated under the Livestock Act?

Mr. Ramsbotham

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which my right hon. Friend gave to my hon. Friend the Member for East Bradford (Mr. Hepworth) on 12th May, in which my right hon. Friend explained that while a number of local authorities and other bodies, after informal consultation with the Livestock Commission, were preparing proposals which might form the basis of slaughter-house schemes under the Livestock Industry Act, no detailed arrangements had been completed or submitted for consideration. My right hon. Friend is informed that provisional proposals have since been received by the Livestock Commission from three local authorities. The Commission are at present in consultation with the Livestock Advisory Committee on the matters for which provision may be made by slaughter-house schemes, and it is hoped to publish in the near future suggestions for the guidance of local authorities and other bodies with a view to facilitating the preparation of proposals and expediting the submission of detailed arrangements for consideration by the Commission.
