HC Deb 26 July 1938 vol 338 cc2875-6
3. Mr. J. Griffiths

asked the Secretary for Mines the number of fatal and disablement cases of certifiable industrial diseases among coal miners in 1937; and

be amended to enable a levy to be made on all coal produced in Great Britain, the proceeds to form a Trade Maintenance Fund which could be used as necessary to assist the sale of British coal, in particular in export markets. The Government are now giving consideration to this proposal which was only transmitted to me a fortnight ago and, of course, raises wide issues. The Government, however, recognise the difficulties that are being experienced in the export trade, and are determined to stand behind the coal industry in its efforts to secure its fair share of the coal export markets.
