HC Deb 26 July 1938 vol 338 c2909
77. Mr. Crowder

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the Departmental Committee on competition between private-hire vehicles and taximeter-cabs will be able to present an interim report before the adjournment for the Recess on the position in London as affecting the taximeter-cab trade?

Earl Winterton

My right hon. Friend understands that the committee will not be able to present an interim report before the House adjourns for the Recess. The committee was appointed only three weeks ago, and the witnesses who wish to appear before them have riot all been able to complete the preparation of their evidence in time to be heard before the Recess.

Mr. Crowder

Does my Noble Friend know whether or not the Committee will sit during the Recess?

Earl Winterton

I imagine that it will, but I should require to have notice of that question.
