HC Deb 20 July 1938 vol 338 cc2195-6
66. Mr. Chorlton

asked the Minister of Transport whether he can give any information as to the date of the completion of the westerly by-pass road for Bury, in the county of Lancashire, how much it is expected to cost, and what grant will be given by his department; also why such a by-pass was considered necessary in view of the fall in trade of the locality together with the possible decline in population?

Mr. Burgin

The Bury Corporation are considering a proposal to construct a bypass on the westerly side of the town. My approval of the plan of the proposed road has not yet been sought, and would not be given until the proposal had been advertised and until objectors had been given an opportunity of making representations. Detailed plans and estimates of the proposed construction have not been prepared and no promise of a grant from the Road Fund has been given.
