HC Deb 18 July 1938 vol 338 cc1776-7
4. Mr. T. Smith

(for Mr. T. Williams) asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether, in view of the widespread opposition in India to the federal portion of the Government of India Act, His Majesty's Government will consider introducing an amending Bill to the Act providing for direct election to the federal Lower House, for power over finance to be vested in the Lower House, and for the amendment of Sections 112 to 117 of the Act?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead

The provisions referred to were the result of deliberate decisions of Parliament in 1935, and His Majesty's Government have no intention of asking Parliament to reconsider them.
