HC Deb 06 July 1938 vol 338 c386
71. Mr. Leach

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been drawn to the proposed destruction of trees as part of a road-widening scheme at Newby Bridge, Windermere; whether his approval has been given; and whether it is too late to have the matter reconsidered?

Mr. Burgin

When the scheme was under discussion in connection with the grant from the Road Fund the Lancashire County Council stated that it was their intention to retain the trees wherever practicable. The council, whose attention has been called to the hon. Member's question, have assured me that they will do all they can to preserve as many trees as possible.

Mr. Leach

Does not the Minister agree that these miscalled improvements are going to destroy some parts of this land?
